I’ve asked around work and told this story and people actually laugh, the way you laugh when you think someone is fucking with you. Then they stare. Then they ask if I am fucking with them. Then they stare. Everyone seems to agree that while terrible things happen here, being called a nigger, being tased, and then fatally shot is not very likely. I guess that first part is unlikely if you’re not black. I’m not slamming America, but I have noticed a considerable difference here in France. The LAPD has drawn a weapon on me 2 times during traffic stops. A cop here approached me once while I was drinking a beer and eating a sandwich by the river( in Paris) and asked me where I bought my sandwich. Completely anecdotal, nowhere is perfect but people here seem to be not so frightened by the police. I work in a shitty area of Paris(yes they exist) and I have seen people of all colors yell at cops openly and loudly for various reasons. I can’t imagine doing that in the US.
